I've seen females take on full male coloration when holding, but not with this species. My cynotilapia sp hara did it all the time.

This guy can show black stripes and look more like a male salousi. The other day he was attacking his reflection and showing some nice color. My females tend to get some black on them when they are being territorial and in some of my pictures the female have a little of a blue sheen.
 
Would you please post more photos of the others in your tank too? Really curious as to what your females look like also. Thank you for sharing the photo above, helped a lot!:)

This is pretty normal coloration for her.
