African or American cichlids? Which do you like?

i started on african's but now i have seen the light, i just need to get my fish in to full bloom to see there beauty

Africans. American cichlids can't do anything my centrarchids can't do just as well. I will admit a fondness for some of the atypical American cichlids, like Geophagus and Crenicichla, but I can't imagine buying an oscar or GT or discus when I can go to the local river and catch a rock bass or green sunfish or longear.

Noto I hardily agree....you can have docile bluespots or orange spots to aggressive muds,greens and redbreasts to the in the middle bluegills,redears,warmouths and last but not least longears Ill go with the sunfish over cichlids any day!

my GF likes the old-world cichlids because they are so bright and colorful, but I prefer the behavior/personality of the SA/CA cichlids . . . and they've got their fair share of very colorful fish too . . .
