African Pike and Vittatus compatible

My experience with multiples is I always ended up with an alpha. So eventually just did what was best for the fish and went 1/tank. Unfortunately they dwarf most tanks that we consider decent sized once they get some size to them. Build speed so fast they easily kill themselves running into lids or sides of the tank. Even happened in a huge styro lined pond.

When trying groups I had best luck with the fish known as the "big eyes" or Tanzies back when I kept them. Much better luck then I had with Vatf. The only Gatf I had was a spaz. Took nothing to spook and got beat up whenever cohabed with other Tiggers.

In my opinion they are the Great Whites of freshwater monster fish.... Hard to say they do well in our glass boxes. :(

Maybe they do well in massive tanks, but for what I had they sure seemed like they'd need much much more room to be comfy enough for the grissle missle suicide mentality to no longer be a huge concern.
Woah thanks a lot for your input!
Very informative.. I’ll keep this is mind, if I get the opportunity might re-structure my setup.

I can also tell u right now that u will most likely end up with 1 atf. Many of us have tried multi tiger tanks off sorts of sizes and ending up with 1 fish. I have a 3ft+ gatf in a 1500 gal fiberglass cylinder shape tank. There are a few tankmates but nothing that spends a majority of time in his swimming zone. Most are all bottom dwellers besides a 17" 10yr + flagtail that minds his own biz and he has gotten a few taps from the tiger as well. In order to grow out a "great white" u need to dedicate and concentrate on the tiger first and everything else 2nd.....they are not tropical fish but game fish and need to be understood as such. All the rules that apply to community animals dont with them. Mine has taken some very big fish including a 30"+ blk aro and 18"+ lince cat. Today I keep the tank as calm as possible. Any changes in the tanks setup or chemistry or environment throws him off and feeding can become challenging.

Nice! Thanks a lot for your input! I'll keep this in mind, for now things are okay between the atf's, but when sh*t starts to hit the fan I'll keep the one I like most and probably trade or sell the others. Too bad about the black aro and lince cat.. Were they in with your GATF long or? Gatf just decided to f them up one day?

Yes def have a plan for.the rest that u dont want. The aro was with him for 5 yrs since it was 15"... the lince less then 1 yr. Once the aro was gone he set his sights on the lince and it took a month or so til he managed to damage. I added adding in a few massive tfb but after a few weeks he destroyed them too. I gave up adding anything else. I'm leaving it be til the next chapter....
