African pike tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're really iffy at that small size, and they absolutely need live food to grow properly. Some of my fry took granulated food and frozen, but I cannot emphasize their need for live!!! Make sure to feed with plenty of guppy fry, mine also took plenty of cherry shrimp.

Why do you think it has ip , they look good.
The one I think has it because he'll eat the same as the others, his stomach will get just as large and then the next day the others will still have a swollen stomach and his stomach will be sunken. The others have put on weight and he won't, he has a big head and skinny body lol

Thanks Harley, do you think that these maybe some of your guys? They aren't on pellets yet, I've been feeding them bw, krill, and ghost shrimp. They seem to be growing pretty steady except for the one that I think has IP.

My batch are adults now.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. Not all fry out of a single spawn of hundreds can make it to adulthood, and ip may have nothing to do with it. It's simply the risk of being fry. Survival of the strongest.

Very cool looking fish.

Why do you think they need live? I bought 5 at 1.5" and they all took to pellets and tilapia right away. I really enjoy these guys and am hoping I can get my vatf to tolerate one in the future.

I bred them and tried everything I could to raise as many as I could, but was limited on the availability of enough live food. Thus, I tried converting a group to granulated food early on, and they didn't grow nearly as much, as fast, as big, as others from the same batch.

I agree with you, when I got mine at 3-4" I fed it strictly live that I would quarantine and fatten up with pellets and I'd feed them pellets right before putting them in as well, don't know if I'm correct but it was like stuffing shrimp with pellets, figured she'd get the nutrients from the pellets as well.. she grew probably 1.5"-2" a month till 8" where she slowed down to more like 1" a month and then when she hit ten inches she got thicker and growth has slowed to very little she's probably about 1' now.
