not sure but it was one of the dwarf varieties

Okay guess I was wrong I have F Russian dwarf who is 2 yrs old now but still active .
Will post pic when I get home to see if same type that attacked you. I didnt think they could even break the skin but know the siberians reg type hamsters can be killers.

This is her .I cant fathom breaking the skin but I am no hamster expert. She lives in bedroom as its 68 degrees here and she likes it cool snake/fish room is way to warm for her.

As a kid I had the common larger siberian and he was a big biter

Is there a difference between "siberian hamsters" and "siberian dwarf hamsters"?
I've never heard of regular siberians, but siberian dwarves are MEAN...
People are so eager to get their kids a pet hamster, but cringe at the thought of a mouse or rat when rats really make so much better pets...

The common larger hamster is actually a Siberian hamster. Though just called a hamster. Teddy bear- black bear all Siberian hamsters

The Russian dwarf which I have though from Russia is not Siberian hamster. There is no Siberian dwarf .

Siberian dwarf is actually the common name most places I've seen use for what you are referring to as a Russian dwarf...since Siberia and Russia greatly overlap geographically, I don't see a point in differentiating between them in this case ;)
I actually just looked it up and read that teddy bears and other similar varieties are descendants of Syrian hamsters, not Siberians...

I've noticed that while not all hamsters bite all the time, most do much more often than other rodents and Siberian/Russian dwarfs are by far the nastiest, but that's just my personal experience...

well you guys happen to be having this discussion on the thread of a semi professional hamster breeder :) Syrian/Teddy bear hamsters sold in long haired nd shorthaired have 1/2 " that can do some nasty damage. And they are usually more aggressive and skidish even pick up than dwarf hamsters. Dwarf hamsters are campbells dwarf hamster, winter whites, robo hamsters (smalles), and chinese dwarfs. They are less inclind to bight aggressivly and when pick up dont just freka out and jump like untamed syrians. Taming takes about 2 weeks if your dedicated. The one pictured above is either a robo hamster or a chinese hamster. chinese hamsters look more mouse like and have loner tails. there are no syrian dwarfs :) did all that make sense? if anyone has any more questions feel free to post
