I wanted to try a lesser tackled biotope... so chose an African river setup. Typical riverbed floor of sand and fine pebbles. A natural looking tree along with a complicated root system for the hardscape. Surrounded by anubias and African water fern that are geographically correct and from the same waterways. Because it's a small tank I'll be trying to be clever with perception so it doesn't look too crowded!

This will be a bit of build / update log and I'll update with more photos for those who are interested.

So... the blank canvas, approximately 90L / 20G...

Now with sand and wood in..

Running a Eheim Ecco Pro 200 (600L p/h), Eheim 100W heater and LED lighting. The tank is open topped.

Stand by for updates on planting, CO2 and more photos.. I'm hoping some of you enjoy the updates.

So, first update and phase 1 of the planting done. They'll be more to come. Anubias nana, Anubias nana petite and African water fern.

The next update will include more planting and co2. I'll also snap an under the tank photo of the kit too.

The platys are only in there for the cycle :)

So... the co2 is up and running. Very happy with it and a very cost effective method (biological). Although not necessary for my low tech plsnts... it can only benefit them along with the liquid darts.

And a quick snap of under the tank.

It may as well be (same concept). I'm using the JBL ProFlora Bio kit and their sachets, but it could equally be done with kitchen ingredients. A sachet set cost me £8 and last 30-40 days.

I got a second hand full co2 system for about 90 Pounds (with exchange rates now) and with a single fill it has lasted well over 18 months on my 60l, it's definitely worth the investment. Consistent and better value for money long term

I did look around for a second hand system - but after a few weeks no joy or still far too much money for the ones out there. That being said I'm happy with the bio setup so far.
