Chill out big dogg. Your Temp is perfect. They are WC in Hot areas. Just make sure you have a lot of aereation in your tank and his eating habbits will rise since his metabo. will increase. 55Gl is fine with 1-2 atf's but with Rays I Question it since Rays could crash your tank Params. I would do 20% daily H2o changes and just buy some new hoses for the canister. I would add another canister with just sponges (Scrubbies so you can have a mini sump...). When I start an old canister, I alwas start it with a bucket outside so all the old junk that is loose gets pushed out

ATf's are always breathing hard, I think it is just how they breath by opening their mouths every sec. As if they are chewing gum:D

theres a few species of ATF i think like 4 or more

But yes both fish regardless of species will get way to big for your tank

What do you guys feed your atf? The first couple days I fed mine blood worms, white clouds, and a couple flowerhorn frys lol. Today he's eating beef heart and frozen tilapia. I want him to grow fast so I have an excuse to upgrade to a larger tank. For tank mates I'm thinking of a wide bar datnoid, tigrinus catfish, and a leicharti arowana. Should get along right?

If you got your lil guy eating that, stick to it. And every here and there give him some feeders for a treat.
As for tankmates, I think they would be fine as long as they are close in size, except the Aro. he will probly loose to the Aro once it gets bigger and more territorial. Also take in mind if you have a small tank there will be more aggression in your tank
