if u can get these guys really huge at least a foot and shoal em all... the payaras and the atf. then ur gonna have the most beast shoal ever! but achieve that... ur gonna need a thousand gallons probably with many super powerheads.

how many parayas ya got?

tank size?

**** atfs are the most craziest fishes i ever took care of. i had a school of 11 at 3-4" then gew them to about 5-6". then slowly they took them selves out. noww down 11 atfs.. all i ahve to say is there ****in crazy but dudee... really hard to take care of .. you shouldnt get em if you dont have a tank of three digits.
sorry for the discouragin speech

well i think i am sticking with my Payara! I have a cooool school of 6 and they are very cool! Thanks for all the info on ATF! I still think they are very cool but long term i have enough to worry about with the Payara! They are all going in a 300 this summer with some massive powerhead action! I am stilll bulking them up on live feeders!

You get them locally in LA?

Hate to pop bubbles here.
Payara full grown and ATF require totally diffrent water conditions. Payara need VERY fast moving VERY o2'd water or die at around 12". they also require a Very DEEP tank because they retreat to deep waters when grown.

300 gallons will NOT be enough to house an ATF at full size. they are open water swimmers and would litterally need a 9x9 tank to have any decent amount of room to move when full grown. 36" for the small one's 5ft+ for a goliath. I aggree they are not fish for the begginer or even the intermediate keeper. the tank size dedication requires deep pockets. And the amount of food these things will chow down on is quite alot. They can take up to 40% of their size in a single feeding.
Not to mention if you are in the wrong place at the wrong moment you could get a very painful bite possibly fatal. I would not want to get bitten by a full grown ATF as your looking at a loss of limb at that point.

That being said here's a picture of mine.
