African tiger scat truly freshwater?

Awwwwe....look at those cute little investments! To bad the FDIC doesn't insure them!!
Good luck with these...they actually look amazing.

Thanks. That pic was only about 20-30 minutes after putting them in the tank. This was definitely the most expensive purchase of fish I've made. The wife wasn't too keen on the idea. But I dropped it on her when she was walking in the door with bags from Calvin Klein and Coach purses. It's all about timing... hahaha

Nice! Congrats and have fun with them. I've heard Scats can have quite the personality, kind of like an Oscar. Is that true?

So what's the consensus out there on personality and the compatibility among themselves and with other fish in the tank. Are they fin nippers and how would six-3 inchers do in a tank? Would a person be better with just one or 6? Would they pic on stingray pups?

Are they a problematic fish?

They get along fine with other fish IME, it's conspecific aggression that runs high with them. When I had 3, 2 where cornered at the surface one of which wouldn't eat due to the stress. They didn't damage one another, no torn fins or damaged body just relentlessly pursued one another, again IME.

As far as rays go I can't say, no experience keeping them together. The Scats are constant grazers though and I don't know if a slow moving ray might look to them like a nice thing to try and much on.

Six, 3 inchers should be fine together. They'll still chase one another especially after feeding as their search for missed morsels has them cross paths but other then that they should be fine. One will also be okay just shy at first but if there's other good dithers moving about their confidence should grow and they'll become bold even singly.

Any other info on these African Scats? Good in groups, community or just do a single one? Ray safe? Pup and adult?

Be careful with rays. I've seen them wreak havoc first hand. Unfortunately, I can't say as a species whether they're ray safe or not. Some get along great with bottom dwellers and some are ax murderers.

They're fine in singles or larger groups IME. They will heckle each other incessantly, so a larger group ensures no one single fish bares the brunt of that aggression to the point where its an issue.

So after ten days or so, all five are doing well. Have started coloring up and filling out a little bit. I've seen similar behavior to what others have said. With 5, they'll chase each other a decent amount, but haven't caused damage. I don't think I'd want to try less than five. They eat constantly! I've had mine eat romaine, spinach, flakes, Omega One tropical grazing rings,Screenshot_2015-11-03-13-26-29-1.png and pellets. I have them with filament barbs and clown loaches. I haven't seen any aggression towards other fish from them.
