  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, go with a monomorphic species. It will give you a lot more color.

I have a 200G multilevel plastic tub pond that I would like to keep some africans in while the weather allows, then they go inside. I'm thinking malawi just looking for some species ideas, more specifically something I could sell or trade the fry of. So no red zebra, yellow labs, kenyi, you know the stuff every shop has. Oh and something with color so I can actually see them would be nice. I want to keep only one species and just let them grow up and breed in there. thanks guys
i thought about doing the same thing , but i didn't follow through, if you do it let us know how it goes, i like to know the resolute.good luck

If it was me I would do a colony of demasoni. Both males and females have great color and they are usually in pretty high demand so you could trade in the babies for a decent amount.

Peacocks are great but females are really drab so you would only have a few colorful fish.
humm good point. are there any species other than kenyi, where the female has a different color than the male, but they both have color.

red zebra females are orange or ob and males can be ob/ blue/ or orange! Mbunas also will shoal they are really cool I have a 75 gal full of them they look amazing I'll try to get a good pic for you to see... Also the melanochromis males trun black with white stripes while females are yellow with black stripes here is my male and female...

the red zebra and melanochromis are just too common, couldnt get rid of the fry arnt worth anything ahha, the shop I work at has them for $2. I do like the Pseudotropheus Saulosi though. I've never much looked into any Pseudotropheus but I'm loving all the species I find. This project may have me expanding the pond so I can do 2 different species in 2 different sections.

Saulosi can be hard to find and when you do they are usually pricey. I think they would be a great option for you. There is also Pseudotropheus Msobo, (or is it Maylandia msobo?) anyway they get a bit bigger than salousi but the females are a beautiful yellow and the males are blue and black.

well this is about to become a pond renovation filled with africans so I'm gunna start a thread in the pond section. thanks for all the great ideas guys.
