are there any that have lots of color and breed readly. also i really want to have a packed tank. i see it with larger tanks. there will be alot of rock for places to hide.

I'm reading this as what Africans can you put in your 29 that will breed and have a lot of color...

Most Mbuna species max out at around 5 inches and are plenty colorful. If the water conditions are good (frequent changes, correct temperature, and PH) they will breed like crazy. Mbunas live in very crowded environments in the wild and naturally thrive with several other fish sharing their living quarters.

Put in lots of rock and use pool filter sand and make it deep and you'll have fry in no time. The Yellow labs are extremely quick to breed, at least that has been my experience. I can't imagine the others being any different.

Good Luck and post some pics when it is complete...

my demasonis also breed like rabbits too...

in my oppinion a 29 is too small for africans. i kept africans in my 29 for years and it was a constant battle to keep them from killing each other. just not enough territory for all of them. if you must keep africans, keep smaller ones and make it a species tank. demasoni, brichardi, shell dwellers

Ok... one more option... then I'm done...:)

I have a 20 gallon long tank in my office with 6 of these which are great!

You just want to make sure you have a lot of rocks as they LOVE to scoot around in caves. They are fun to watch as they move around like little submarines... forwards... backwards... upside down... sideways...

There are actually lots of good options for a small African tank. Whatever you choose... just remember to keep the stock pretty light. Also... as is common on here... don't skimp on filtration. This is especially important for smaller tanks. I have two AC-50s on my 20 gallon office tank.
