thanks jon. i realy want the Pseudotropheus saulosi, but not sure how many can stay in tank if i had 4 f -1 m would babies be eaten so numbers stay low or would tank be over run with fights and deaths? not sure are the Julidochromis transcriptus the one people call "julies" ? very cool gotta do research but i like what i see.

I think you could safely up the numbers to 2/3 males and 7/8 females. Here's a pic from a really nice 30 gallon from someone on the "the cichlid forum". I can't find the link to the actual tank specifics... but I saved the picture on my computer...

29 g is not possible for any malawian.

u can try with 1 m +3 female of Nichol's Mouthbrooder (Pseudocrenilabrus Nicholsi)
great colours, great fish, they breed fast as hell.

yeah im thinking its just too small for lake malawi (mbuna) cichlids. i would go with lake tang, or a pair of breeding rams. i really love that pic jon posted of the 30 gallon, but dont know how it would last long term.. demasonis breed like rabbits and like to be aggressive to their own kind. i would go with shellies or rams personally.
