africans with south americans

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i don't know... i have seen some people keeping frontosas with severums and what not. it depends on what you do and how you do it.
like a lot of people mentioned before - SA and CA cichlids are not too keen to be crowded like africans are. africans also seem to be somewhat more used to a gregarious or school like formation than CA and SA cichlids who tend to be more loners or pairs.
i personally have a 1" jag fry with some 1.5" frontosas and they get along fine. there are some tiffs every now and then but everyone is pretty much ok. BUT if these were adults i would have no doubt that the jag would run over the fronts with no problems.
so like i said it really depends on how and what you do.

A lot of non-rift lake africans can certainly be kept with neotropicals, jewel cichlids being an example.

get 2 tanks and have some of each but dont mix. my 2c

LIVE TOGETHER BUT THEY WERE ALL RAISED TOGETHER ALSO. THIS HELPS ALOT. IT ISNT RECOMMENDED BUT WITH ANYTHING YOU CAN EXPERIMENT A LITTLE. :WHOA:

I agree with repair and mike you can mix with success and have it look great. If I was you I would get a bigger tank to mix in somewhere along the lines of a 125 or larger, you just have more options with those types of tanks. I mix mine all the time and have had great success just understand the types of cichilids that you are putting in the tank and the aggression levels that they have. As far as water params remember that if you get your fish at a lfs they all come out of the same water conditions but if you are dealing with wild caught then they will want different params.

Hey africancrazy, I say experiment with it. It's your aquarium, and you should be able to do what you like. Just keep in mind that your 55 will only house them for a short while. Good luck!
