After nearly six years it ends like this

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's nuts....another reason why I like dc pumps. U can pause them for 10 mins and they turn themselves back on. Was the filtration the primary source of aeration too? No air stones? Sorry for ur loss bud. Always hurts to lose special fish!

Yes it hurts
My issue with air stones is I hate bubbles in my tanks and even though I have a centralised air pump that comes up when there's a power outage, I have wired it such that it runs only when theres an outage

I'm not a major fan either but they can be a life saver. My system's overhead bio towers gravity drain back into the tank so there is plenty of surface agitation and aeration and I still run 3 x 4" airstones. 2 on a pond air pump and 1 on a battery pump that is very strong and with a charged battery can go on for a day or so. U never know.

Sorry, brother. Our hobby life is full of these losses, you know as well as anyone else. My sympathies. At least you didn't kill yours with your own hands on purpose like I had to do by the order of authorities. Your pain will ease with time.

Lesson is: single point of failure tanks are no good for the long term keeping of prized fish and sooner or later it will happen, by operator error, pump quits, power goes out, lightning hits too close, etc.

Phil is running his exceedingly safely.

Mine are like yours - pump stops, the DO drops, and even the water mostly runs out too :(

Because they mess up your photography?

Ty viktor! I do my best to avoid any casualties since what I keep I cannot simply walk into an lfs and repurchase them. Sucks u had to put down ur prized fish species. Lessons learned for all of us.

The bagarius had puked it's previous feed, and to clean it up I had switched off the pump, but forgot to switch it on, 24 hrs later I come to see my tank.

This is horrible. Thanks for being honest. Truly a nightmare that could happen to anyone.
