They will actually catch any stray living critters and pull them out of your water column for you. Think of them as fresh water anemones. I have heard they can be tricky to keep alive if you aren't specifically trying to culture them, though. Harmless to anything big enough to pull out of their grasp.

haha i just read about it , it some what simiilar to the one in the pic but their shorter... on those arms.. esp... :o.. i guess

their pretty safe then....

Hydra... the FW relative of jellyfish. I keep hydra in my tank because I think they're interesting, but my fish keep on consuming them!
