I was wondering if flowerhorns are so aggressive to other fish, reflections of themselves, bite your hand, and bumping into the walls of fish tanks to attack something, once you get them into your hand and take them out of the water they just lay there and stay still. Most of us have taken them out of the water to take pictures or something, don't even need a net, what happens to the fish's aggression you don't even have to put your fingers around them. They just lay on your palm..

???? What are you saying, any fish can stay still in your hand because its not breathing. Dont be surprised if it flaps out of your hand and slams on to the floor

agreed i wouldnt take out a fish without a net and i would be careful not to have it flap around and get hurt

There is a technique like how marine biologist deal with sharks flipping them upside down to put them in a trance like state. Which also works with fish if u get them at the correct angle on there side they will not struggle, but this is not guaranteed and can injure fish. Net is much safer.

I'm not trying to argue here. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I meant that alot of people don't use nets, not shouldn't use nets. Being new to flowerhorns, I've looked at alot of pictures and can't remember seeing pictures of flowerhorns out of the tank with a net around them. I've only seen pictures of them in people's bare hands. Like I said, not trying to argue here, just asking a question. Can someone post a picture with a flowerhorn being held in their hand with a net around them and not doing it now and posting it?

I get what you're saying doc. I can slowly put my hand under my flowerhorn's belly and he just lets me take him out of the water and does not thrash at all. I use nets with smaller fish but with my big central's they usually allow me to use this method. My flowerhorn's don't like the net and usually freak out and thrash around. Everyone cares for their fish differently and this method works for me.

I've wondered about that too, since all the FH dealers post photos of them in hand.

Ive had flowerhorn delivered with some type of liquid in the water that keeps them calm, yes you can grab them with your hands just make sure not to grab them to tight but not so loose that you will drop em. Also make sure to wash your hands and put stress coat on your hands if you have any.
What are you trying to do tho?

And what were you specting?, Flower horn ripping off half your fingers?.....:wall:

Try to do that with a 10" Serrasalmus Rhombeus or a Pygocentrus Caribe and then may get what youre looking for...
