I have just started keepin polys and I have noticed my ornate is starting to become aggressive towards my del. Both are around 7" I am keeping them in a 6foot 125, but I have it divided in half until I can get rid of my clown knife. If after opening up the whole tank and the aggression does not stop is there anything I can do to help stop it? Would adding one or two more help or would I need to remove one of the two.

I'm not sure about the aggression between the ornate and eel but I'll gladly take your CK off your hands if you're looking for a good home for him. I do know when having issues with two fish being aggressive towards each other the divider works good as a temp solution and then sometimes removing them, rescaping the whole tank and reintroducing works. I do know this method is "hit or miss" as far as I know.

Ornates, CAN be very aggressive as they grow.
Just one of those things that happens.

May just be trying to establish territory?

I've found rescaping the whole tank like said above works well, but if you wish not to do that, you could always add more hiding places(plants, driftwood, rocks, etc..).

I may have to try rescaping the tank.

Tgm is there any dif in territory and straight agression. I have watched a few times the ornate kinda push under the del then it just bites its tail or rear fins. There is no major damage besides what looks to be broken blood vessels.

Jon M. I'm about to the point where I would give him away but florida is a ways away and I have no idea how to ship a fish led alone of this size. The ck was def a horrible impulse buy. And it is mean and I'm afraid if I tried to put anything with it they would end up dead.

Ornate can be aggressive. Depends on your luck. If rescaping the tank doesn't help, best is to seperate them for life. I don't know how much damage an ornate can cost. Mine is quite tamed. Even at 12", it can co-exist peacefully with my 3" endli.

rescapingis may not be the solution, it just removes know boundaries or territories, after a few days or weeks they will reestablish there places and aggression starts all over again, it only work if he establishes him self within the new order.

Options:
1. Overstock the tank, prevents anyone from establishing a territory due to crowding, and spreads the aggression.
2. Personality of the fish place a role, replace it will another ornate and hope its not aggressive. i have 3 ornates, the 11inch is docile, but the 9inch occasionally bites anything.
3. If the aggression does not result in major damage, its all ok, occasional torn fish are ok.
4. how long have you had the Del? in my experience they can be aggressive to newly introduced bichirs but will settle down in 2-3 weeks.

hope that helps.
