I have 4 bichirs(p.congicus,2 p.endli,p. koliba) in a 60g tank and have noticed that the congicus is really aggressive. I was wondering if any other congicus owners have noticed aggressive behavior in their congicus. I think I might have to feed a lot more often just to keep the congicus occupied.
you need a biggger tank the congi can grow well over 2ft and the endi's get 1-2ft easily, so a bigger tank and more hiding spaces is the best answer, but no matter what size tank their in you will still see aggression from time to time.
I've always felt that aggression in poly's is individual, rather than a trait of any species.
Just like oscars... some are cranky, others are easy going.
Nice quote btw mr_ifo... I love that 'tonight is Heroes' feeling lol
Yeah i am starting to think that my congicus just has major attitude! What you know bout Heroes! Heroes is the bombest show on tv right now! Hopefully the storyline gets better. I have been reading rumors on forums about the story going stale.

heeeeeeeroessss :>
gotta love that show
but yea polys usually are quite chilled fish but they canget kranky just like anybody else...
I am starting to see that it is more territorial than aggression. It is weird though cause everywhere the congicus swims and if any of the other bichirs are in his way they get it. Maybe if I feed him more he will chill out....
he's just being the big fish is all its kind of normal. That said consider getting a much much bigger tank or this situation could get real nasty. All the bichirs you listed will reach a minimum of 18 inches(koliba) and the endi's
24+ inches and tuff guy there 24-30 inches the tank you have now is actually to small-Anne
Ol, how is the layout of your tank? do you have any decor (driftwood, rocks, plants, etc.?) If so, perhaps the congicus may be trying to claim it's territory, like Anne mentioned above?
If you do have decor in your tank, consider taking it out and leaving the tank bare, (except for gravel substrate)... a tank that's decorless sometimes will lessen aggression, since there is no territory to claim. If aggression still persists, I would consider getting a larger tank for them all. GL!
