Well my little jag and gold saum have finally reached the point that I am going to have to seperate them. They are both about 4 inches long in a 55. They have grown from about 1.5" to this size together with no real quarrels. Last night I found the two of them with lips locked fighting for the Jags pit. They broke it up and didn't seem too concerned with each other until a couple minutes ago. They were at it again. How long do you think I have before it turns dangerously aggressive? I have another 55 I can set up for a temporary home for the Jaguar until I can upgrade it. I have to work today, so there is no way I can keep an eye on them until I come home for lunch. Right now theres no serious injuries. I rearranged the tank and threw in another fake rock formation to try and mess with their sense of territory for a bit. My quarantine tank is occupied right now, so I can't even use it to seperate them.

Anyone?

You are asking us to speculate. There is no # to put to how long untill a fish goes left. Just get the other tank up and seperate them. Are there any nipped fins?

The gold saum has a small spot that looks like it might have been hit. I've seen fish do worse darting past wood though. It seems at the moment the GS is the one initiating everything. Which is the exact opposite of what it has been previously. Looks like I get to setup the other tank and put my poly tank on hold a little longer.

I would separate the fish before its too late rather than waiting for it to get too late. If you can't do it for whatever reason, change tank deco placements frequently, divider, add some fast cheap fish from petsmart to diffuse the aggression between more fish. Some times two fish fighting is worse than a mob of aggression between lots of fish.
