Aggressive 240g

Chances are slim that it will work. There are exceptions but I've heard (and experienced) many more stories about how it would not work with a Dovii.

If it were me.. pick up a pair of Dovii and keep those. Although it's easier for me because Dovii are the only Cichlid I'm interested in keeping. I prefer oddballs, but there is just something about Dovii that brought me over to Cichlids.

Will they sell you the breeding pair of Dovii?

either dovii pair or ca community with doviis or umbees

Id say that the only way it would work is if the dovii is smaller than the rest of the fish. That is what i did but they werent that small when i introduced them. I currently have a 240gal community tank with 8 fish ranging from 6'' to 12'', one of which is my 9'' Dovii. I have not have any problems with aggression only flaring here and there. I only put in two pices od driftwood so there wouldnt be any fighting for territory.

That Dovii won't be smaller for long :D

Lets face it centrals are not community fish. In the wild these fish would have their space and be far from each other. I have geophagus Altrifons (5) in my 90 with a 12" scarlet pleco and the geos beat the hell out of each other all the time. My geos are wimps compared to the "take no prisoners cichlids" you are talking about. Sooner or later with agressive Centrals you will have promblems trying to keep them together. They really do better in pairs or as single specimens.

Don't think the breeding pair of Dovii are for sale, only another 6" female they have. I could remove the Dovii from the list, who knows which other fish would cause a problem. Would love to see it all work but wasn't sure of the chances in an 8x2x2 tank.

Also, the person who asked how could I tell male or female at 2"?....... good point.

id still try it there is a posiblity of it working and doing what i said in my last post would increase your chances, as soon as i move out and save $1500 im doing almost the asack same thing only with a a bigger tank.

Its always worth a shot the worst case sanario if u keep a close eye on things is you might need to remove the dovi (providing no fish die) and that tank still would be awesome with out one.

Yeah, once i put him in the tank he just had a growth spurt. Its funny how he sometimes gets punked by a vieja smaller than he is.
