I have softball sized silver dollars and a 15" bala shark in with my two 14" armies. They fight here and there but we will see how it goes when the armies get bigger
Well it's worth a shot IMO like balas are more slender and silvery so they're more of a prime target than my tarpon, plus i can get a full refund in the first two weeks if they die
Baaaad news. I was gone for a week and when I got back my T-cup ray was dead and my armatus had a weird white blotch on his side maybe bacterial or fungal but ate fine and everything and my "caretaker" didn't even know lol. Anyways in the last 2-3 days the blotches spread he refuses to feed (which is weird he's a pig ate a few hours out of the shipping bag) , he has white ick like spots, his fins have little splits I am doing 30% WCs daily with salt and 86 F temp. I think he may pass away this week if he doesnt get better... all his tankmates are 100% fine happy and healthy... any suggestions? Armatus have small scales so I'm thinking medications aren't a good idea.
Definitely sounds like ammo burn. Have you checked the parameters to see if there's excessive ammonia buildup in there yet? If so, I'd recommend keeping up with those daily water changes until you get it back to 0, possibly bringing over some media from any other tanks you've got running to help chew through the excess ammonia until it gets back under control.
Hopefully you got back in time to save the army, good luck.
I think it's too late already . Ammonia is definetly at 0 all the other fish in the tank are fine and better than ever. I put another large sponge filter rated at 125 gallons in there but he still won't feed. Im very worried that I got there too late. He doesnt even look at feeders anymore. I just hope he starts to turn around soon because he's really a great fish, doesnt get skittish like most characins and he looks spectacular when he feeds. He hasn't caused me any problems before I was really suprised this has happened
He just hangs around at the top by the sponge filters rn. During water changes he just rests on the bottom and doesn't move or dart or anything at all which has me very worried, healthy characins usually dart around and you know do their thing smash into walls and stuff. Is there anything on the market that deals with treating ammonia burns? If he isnt feeding is it too late? should I euthanize him? I found a thread that looks alot like his condition http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...-after-transport-!&highlight=armatus+shipping
Fish that lay on the bottom of the tank and fish that stay up top like larger silver aros. Armatus normaly stay mid tank so if you have anything that is mid tank, make sure they can defend for them self like a tiger or a dorado. You can also mix up the tank or add more than one fish at a time to get him off track and I'll chill him out alittle. If you do any cats, make sure they won't eat him like my ripsaw and bacu
