Absolutly, I go with all the above opinions.. from experience. My Cons have a pop at you when they have fry in the tank so I put a divider up when I clean them ...doesnt take long and less stress all round.
I put a gibby in my tank for all of a week as i was thinking the same as you....NOT GOOD ...

clean it yourself, pleco's arn't good cleaners. Also what size is the tank? If the water params are that far off, you probabbly shouldn't add anything till it's cleared up
