AGGRESSIVE Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there is no real single aggesive fish. Jars are not good with tankmates dovi get big and are CA/SA cichlids and they are all for the most part not nice but dovi have size behind them. RBPs are pretty common and cool but it's not like I worry about sticking my hand in my tank. Most of the wolf fish I have seen for sale will not get very large.
So it's more of a question what do you want

teeth
color
Reputation

and what size tank do you have. I mean if you want a NASTY fish get a gator gar but you best have over 1K gallons for it. but if you got a 55 then get 3 RBPs b/c they won't outgrow the tank. If you want nasty teeth get a armatus but again they are from what I read skittish so you need a large tank to try to keep them from killing themselves after running into the glass.

a few things to think about.

cheers for that every1 you all gave me some good fish to think about, Koop171 obviouse i wont be getting a gator gar but man they are cool. im looking for a fish that isnt very hard to keep, and not too big as tanks are quite expensive. wolf fish have caught my eye can anyone give me any pointers in keeping then and whether or not i can keep any other fish with them, like oscars.

fahaka puffers are killers they bite fish in half, and are generally a solo fish, they get about 18 inches

wolf fish usually can be kept with wolf fish and thats it, there are exceptions but generally you can keep them in packs of 3, a buddy of mine kept 3 red wolfs in a 55 they were fine.

lol i knew a gator was out of the pic but you generalized so I had to throw some general knowledge out there to try and pry what you want to get out of ya. lol Some wolfs are hard to come by ask BigJ he was looking for one awhile back and I don't know if he found on of not. but he deals in the more exotic range. I have seen them for sale maybe 3 times around me. and they usually go for 60bucks.

First off, which wolf fish are u interested in purchasing. In an earlier post someone stated that they dont get big, well that only goes for some of them. Wolf fish vary in size from 8in-4ft long, so it def. makes a difference to know which species you want. The most common iin the trade are the following three...are Ery Ery or Red Hi Fin wolf fish, get 8-10in. You also have Hoplias Mala's (Common Wolf) get around 2ft long, Gold Wolf Fish, 15-18in. There are more but they are less common in the hobby and cost big bucks. The king of the wolves would be the Aimara get to 4ft, kill everything, and require a large tank...and make sure u have deep pockets...if u can even find one...LOL. All of the wolves eat meaty foods and its not hard to get them off live foods. The Ery Ery can have tankmates as long as its not the same species, and nothing they cant eat, or will bother them. The Gold Wolf can have tankmates around the same size that they cant eat, and the Common Wolves are the most aggressive out of the three, and if u want to have tankmates with them, its best to start them young. Good Luck on your choice....;)
