To try to make a long story short. I had 5 four inch goldfish(all common) in a 55 gallon... they got along great. I moved 3 of them to my pond. Then the 2 left started chasing each other. The tank was later upgraded to a 75 where the 2 continued their behavior(I was thinking maybe they were trying to spawn).

My pond came to it's end(It seems so did one of those three in it). I decided to put the other two back in the tank. To my surprise the two in the tank chased and bullied the two from the pond. Finally after a few days things settled down a little, however I'm now seeing all four of them chasing each other around and one of the returning pond goldfish's fins are slightly ripped up with a few missing scales.

Has anyone seen common goldfish act this way?

Edit: Opps, this wasn't suppose to be in the media lounge... could a mod please move it?

Thanks,

Yes I've had koi as well as large feeders chase each other. I've also had them in same tank as aros and a large rtc.. They did real well together. Don't ask me how

I was reading information that said, there might not be enough room and it's causing the fish to fight more. Are they all males?

I don't the sex, but the fighting started when I removed the other goldfish to put them in the pond.

2nd topic - What are good ways of sexing commons?

Here's some shots, they were hard to get as they kept swimming around.

The light ones are the ones that have always been in the tank(s), the dark ones came from the pond.

Yeah, I have had a 8 inch goldfish ina 75 community tank for over 3 years. I took him out of my piranha tank after he had been in there for over 2 weeks, evading every attempt at his life. So I hooked him up. Gave him a nice tank, fed him flakes and pellets until his tummy got nice and fat. And how does he repay me?The bastard eats $40 worth of neon tetras in 3 days. I can only keep him with 2 large angels,2 gouramis, and a few larger lemon tetras. Swordtails and danios also go missing in his presence. The goldfish is by far the most opportunistic feeder in the fish world, so if the situation requires it, they can be slightly aggressive.

Do some of these goldfish exhibit white spots on their gill covers? The ones that do have the obvious white spots on their gill covers in the pics especially the white ones are males. I see the fat one. Looks like female to me. Maybe that kinda explains this aggressive behavior. Poor girls.
