Check you RO with a TDS meter, may need a new membrane. A couple powerheads would be good also.

the RO is fine. i took a water sample into sears and had them do a complete test (for free.. all sears offers it) and then bought my own at home test and did the same. all came back fine. RO is only 7 months old. membrane should last 3 years according to manufacturer.

i will look into powerheads.

blck out fpor three days
Use phosphate media
Add more flow
And find the root of your problem
Prolly flow and over feeding..
Older light bulbs will cause an outbreak also
Try using a more blue spectrum bulbs and raise your flow and try to suck out the red slime right before lights go out then do your three days no light..

Dr. G's Red Slime remover. Best stuff on the market currently. Use it once and it will take care of everything.

Agreed.

I also did water changes every 2 days of about 15% for 6 days and that helped a ton too. Plus being careful to not overfeed.

black outs, red slime products are just a quick fix but you need to figure out the root of the problem or you'll get the slime again, things to check would be

1. phosphate levels
2. what are you feeding how much? are you dumping all the water in the tank after the frozen food de-thawed in it?
3. flow in the tank are there dead zones where food, waste are building up?
4. do you have a sufficient clean up crew of snails 1 per gallon snails like Cerith, trouchus, astrea??

these will ultimately fix the problem
