I have been graced with a 20 gallon tank, and I want to make it semi aggressive to almost true aggresive tank status.

I was thinking a red tail shark, a couple female bettas to start

What other small 1-3 inch fish could I put in thats semi aggresive?

I am trying something crazy here I know but will have tons of plants and caves as they will need plenty of hiding spots from each other.

Any ideas?

if you want some mean fish, get some convict cichlids. i have 2, and they tear apart anything they dont like in my tank, much like piranahs. they also love caves, and will pick one and make it there home and guard it with their life

i agree cons would work for a 20, will nothing else in the tank but them though

I know about convicts but I want a bit more variety, This is my first attempt at a semi aggresive tank. Are there any other smaller chiclids available? (Yes I know this a Monster fish keepers forum but still)

And thanks for the replys keep em coming.

Female Bettas are far from aggressive. They'd end up being the ones getting picked on and they're too slow to get away. There's tons of dwarf cichlids that would work in a 20 g tank. Do a Google search and you'll find so many you won't be able to decide which ones. But I definitely wouldn't put the female Betta in there.

Male betta then? Or try more than 1 male betta :WHOA:

Are there smaller chiclids than convits out there?

I really hope that first one was a joke, I think it was at least.

Plant it and throw some jewel cichlids in it.

I'm not really understanding why you're going for this tank. Do you want to see them fight? Because that's just sad.

For a tank this size you won't be able to add many different types of semi and aggressive with this fish without them murdering each other, so you'll need to stick with one (maybe 2) types.

No dont misunderstand what I am trying to do.

I want to see if I am able to make a complex enough tank to house 2 or 3 very territorial fish together with little to no fighting.

I was exageratting about the 2 male bettas, even though I have herd of 2 bettas housed in a 20 gallon with no problems, me personally would not try it.

Again thanks for the responses.

Cichlids are territorial, they fight in small quarters. They chase and challenge in big quarters. That's just what they do. So I don't think you'll be able to accomplish your 'goal'. And male Bettas are even slower than females plus they have their long fins. All that would happen there would be a horrible death for the Betta.
