Yea seems like a convict or 2 might be the way to go.
Would a convict and redtail shark be ok, or would the cichlid harass the crap outta it?

I want to see if I am able to make a complex enough tank to house 2 or 3 very territorial fish together with little to no fighting.
I was exageratting about the 2 male bettas, even though I have herd of 2 bettas housed in a 20 gallon with no problems, me personally would not try it.
Again thanks for the responses.

Are you serious ?
Fish are really basic Meaning they default to territory, feeding, and breeding. What do you think theyre going to do, get in a huge brawl and then respect the one that wins when it is only a 20 gallon tank? This theory may work in a much larger tank If you are going to put multiple aggressive fish in one tank you need to have the room for the looser to go and hide. If you dont, the dominate one will just push and push the weak ones until they just give up on life. Stress and stress related diseases will follow. I would rethink your tank vision.
Take it from me I didnt listen to the numerous attempts of people that told me I was nuts. I have 6 rainbow sharks in a 90 gallon (4ft long tank) and that is not enough room. They just push each other out of the same spots all day. So far none have died, but who knows. They are reaching maturity and getting grumpy.
