Aggressive, Semi aggresive tank question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea seems like a convict or 2 might be the way to go.

Would a convict and redtail shark be ok, or would the cichlid harass the crap outta it?

Jellybean parrots maybe......

try a pair of hoduran red points very similar to a con but a little smaller and a lot more colorful

my catfish are very territorial. i have a bullhead, pictus & 2 spotted cats. (plus 4 convicts in my 55) the pictus is an ashole to all the other fish. even his own kind. he ate the fins off of a male betta and ate the tale off my glass knife =( i didnt think cats were soposed to be that mean but he is..
the bullhead is awesome though i like the way they swim with their whole body not just the fins..

you couldnt keep a bullhead in a 20gal though, hell get too big. but the pictus & spotted cats would be ok.. & the convict cichlids can go with them. all pretty inexpensive too..

juwel cichlids are nicely coloured and breed VERY easily.
ive also had Teliogramma Brichardi, which is a small goby like cichlid with some subdued navy blue and pinkish white colouration, they are really territorial and fun to watch =) if all else fails go with cons or HRP's

No dont misunderstand what I am trying to do.

I want to see if I am able to make a complex enough tank to house 2 or 3 very territorial fish together with little to no fighting.

I was exageratting about the 2 male bettas, even though I have herd of 2 bettas housed in a 20 gallon with no problems, me personally would not try it.

Again thanks for the responses.

Really....
Are you serious…?
Fish are really basic… Meaning they default to territory, feeding, and breeding. What do you think they’re going to do, get in a huge brawl and then respect the one that wins when it is only a 20 gallon tank? This theory may work in a much larger tank… If you are going to put multiple aggressive fish in one tank… you need to have the room for the looser to go and hide. If you don’t, the dominate one will just push and push the weak ones until they just give up on life. Stress and stress related diseases will follow. I would rethink your tank vision.

Take it from me… I didn’t listen to the numerous attempts of people that told me I was nuts. I have 6 rainbow sharks in a 90 gallon (4ft long tank) and that is not enough room. They just push each other out of the same spots all day. So far none have died, but who knows. They are reaching maturity and getting grumpy.

I think he's trying to to fit a few like fish with moderate conspecific temperament together. A pair of jewels, convicts, red points, all would work well. Throw a pair of pictus in the bottom and it will be maxed out.
