Aggressive senegal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When the endlis were smaller all 3 got along great. Sen never tried to eat small fish either.
I m guessing its the perceived threat like moe214 moe214 stated. But the sen has been with plenty of larger poly's

It honestly depends on the specimen and how he/she interprets what's going on, it could be he's grump or developed a dislike for them, maybe they nipped at him once by accident and you didn't see. I've had similar experiences with aggressive comm where everything was perfect one day but a fish might have challenged the dominant one or bit him for whatever reason and then the dominant fish relentlessly went after that one fish. Fish can be very smart, smarter than we give them credit for.

Man I need to stop looking in the poly section.

This makes me want another endli. Yours look good.

When kept in small groups my experience is that poly's are somewhat territorial especially when they are around the same size, I've kept ornates, teugs and palmas; and every time the fish grew to a similar size in small groups (2~3) in a planted aquarium or otherwise with hides there has been territorial bouts for the best spots, food, etc. But then when the size difference is large both fish tolerate each others presence.

My guess would be that poly's in the wild tolerate smaller polys within their territory as long as there is no doubt who is the biggest baddest mcdaddy around, but as they grow up to a similar size they start to tussle for the belt and the losers disperse further into their watery world.

Makes sense

It's almost like when you add a new poly. When a new poly is added the pecking order is disrupted and reformed to whatever the fish decide. Now that the endlis are becoming of challenging size, the sen is making an attempt to keep his spot. Not that it really matters as they'll quickly outgrow the sen at the rate they're going. If the trend holds true the endlis will soon be trying to find they're own spots.

To be honest i under estimate polys. They have comlpicated behaviors just like cichlids... though not as aggressive but complicated none the less
