So at work we got a tank of common wolffish. They are probably about 4-5 inches each.

We also have a red terror that is 7-8" that somebody traded in that is in the same tank.

One of the wolffish is always swimming around and he loves to stare down the terror. Another employee was going to scrub the inside of the tank and when he opened the lid the wolf fish started staring down his hand. When he put his hand in, the wolffish darted after his hand and tried to bite it :D.

Are wolf fish normally this aggressive?

Lets put it this way, your friend was lucky the wolf didn't JUMP out of the water and bite him  jk. Yea totally normal for a wolf to attack his owner  You should see their cousins, the Curupira & Aimara 2x more aggressive :nilly:

good idea not to stick your hand in the tank... i found that out when i was younger i decided to do a water change and the next thing i knew 9 inch woulf fish biteing my hand and leaving the tank a stained red color....

yea, also took a bite and drawing blood from a 5.8 inch mala.

but mine was more of my fault this 1 time., he wont come after me while i have my hand in the tank, but i am more scared now lol. but he lets me know when he is hungry, so i feed him before i start to clean, if i move his tree he gets pissed and like stares me down until i put it back, i put it back he goes back up to the top of it and lays there, like yea this is mine, leave it alone u go now lol

2 Ft Aimara will jump out of the tank and bite your hand off, 12" Mala will jump out and bite your finger off, Lets just leave it at that.

OMG! That is just hilarious - where do you come up with this crap.

So I guess by now my 16" Mala shoulda ate all my fingers - that's just plain rediculous. There are so few fish in this hobby that can actually bite thru human bone, maybe I do mean mabye, Serrasalmus Rhombeus @ 16".
Wolf fish bite and roll like an alligator, their teeth are designed to capture prey, hold onto while they kill it thru violent shaking and then swallow the prey whole - not bite at it like humans eating a hamburger.

OP's answer - YES Wolf fish are generally very aggressive towards other fish and aren't afraid to show their owners they are annoyed. But usually it's just gill flaring at the glass. Mine has take'n a few shots at the hose I use to change his water but when my hand goes in the tank he runs.

what the hell is going on here then?

Firstly, Piranha 3D, as real as it may have seemed (try to read between the lines with that statement...) fish don't jump out of the water to maul people. That's just retarded. Secondly Mr lover...

...actually, Never mind. However funny it might be to begin the joke, it's just not worth the repercussions.
