hi
i want a really aggressive fish that is moderatly easy to take care of and will be able to fit in a 55 gallon tank. Does anyone have any ideas.

in what way you wanting agressive? To beat **** out of other fish. or to pounce on feeders?
Feeders arent good for your fish do to them causeing illness and such.
Channa gachuas can be agressive and can live in a 55 for life. You got salvini they stay small under 8 or 9 inchs i beleve max. But ounce for ounce not pound for pound ya gotta give comvicts there due.

If you want something that will charge the glass, a male convict is about as good as you can get for a 55g.

A single serrasalmus piranha or cariba will destroy fish, but oftentimes they are pretty inactive/shy around the keeper. And they will usually not instantly confront/attack any large new fish added with them. Not that you'd want to be adding any other large fish in a 55g anyway...

If you want something that will attack/eat/kill small fish that you add with it, any one of the larger african hap species will work well. The Nimbochromis group-- Venustus, Fuscotaeniatus, Livingstonii fit this bill probably better than anything else, and they are readily available in LFSes.

I like Phago maculatus (african pike characin) Ttey max out at 8" and if you drop a dozen 3" ruby reds will often kill them all even if it is full. If you keep anything else with them it had better be bigger.

Red devils are good too - they'll pretty much eat anything, and whatever they cant fit their mouths, they'll terrorise the victim until they die.

I love their colourfu character but they can be extremely unforgiving to other fish!!

I beleve keyword for this thread was something that can live in a 55 . Red devils and midas are not a fish to be kept in a 55 . Its just to small. My male midas hit 9 inchs in the first 6 months

convicts!!!!!

Neetroplus nematopus. if you think convicts are mean youve never seen a neet at work. I started with 3 in my 300 and within a year and a half they had taken over most of the tank. At 4" for my biggest male and 3" for the biggest female, they whipped the dovii and tri-mac i had with them and the dovii was a good 10" and the tri-mac at about 13". seriously good parents. afraid of nothing. razor sharp teeth. any fish harrased by a pair will think twice at a 2nd attempt.
