Yeah, did you test the water as soon as you saw it dead and again the next day? That's what I always do. . . if it's not something that killed it that's immediately apparent it always seems to show the next day. . . sorry for your loss.

I find that the biggest killer of my Malawi's is stress. I would like to see a more complete pic of your tank. Looks to me as though you might not have enough hiding spots for your fish. We put small fish into a tank and once they are growing bigger the parameters change. A fish that might have been less dominant suddenly becomes a lot more aggressive. Before you know it a great fish has died. I lost a baby fish, Melanochromis maingano, only about 8mm but it is still a loss.
