Aimara with rays?

My Aimara will take your fingers off!!

You might as well throw all this "Wild senario's" out the window. A glass water box is a lot different then the wild. It's all a matter of you want to to "risk it" then go ahead and try. If it works for you then so be it. I wanted my Aimara due to it's aggressiveness and killer instinct! I didn't buy my Aimara to see if it would go in a community tank with other fish, I wanted it to be exactly what it is a "natural born killer". I can't even put my hand in it's tank anymore! Now that's an Aimara!!

Well there are many people that are making it work. Your Aimara is In you tank by itself do it has claimed the entire tank as his territory so he is going to attack pretty much anything you toss in. But if you were to remove him and put it in another tank that already has monster sized fish in it then it would most likely work.

Neither would I. Untill I saw people mixing Falkneri and Boesemani with them. I thought if they were willing to try it and it worked why not give it a go? I tried it and seemed to work. If the Wolf snaps and kills then it's my fault and hey, better me then you right? BUT if someone else tries it and enjoys it as much as I do then that's great too. :)

Pitbulls attack people everyday. Does that mean this breed should never be kept by anoyone? Or should they only be kept by responsable people? Should the same be said for fish?

I see you are also trying it with falkneri! When did you get your falks

I am not brave enough to try anything like that but I give you props for doing so. I couldn't sleep at night with that toothy thing in my tank with my other fish and rays.

But you know the fish and have calculated the risk

I've kept a lot of Characins. It seems there's a stereotype involved with these type of fish. They have big teeth, but that doesn't mean they aren't still a fish. If you figure out the temperment of these fish you feel a lil more comfy mixing them. With toothy fish it all boils down to one thing the fishes objective. IF it knows the food source it's not gonna view tankmates as the source. Other fish can beg for food just like rays. Break them just like rays on to falling dead food from a person and they know where it comes from. I have video up of my backflipping Raph, that thing knew when it was getting fed. Don't get me wrong, they're still apex preadators. Won't catch me stickin hands in the Aimara's tank for any reason. That thing will attack anything that goes in the tank. However it knows what resides in the tank and even if the rays get pushy he still just bounces above them. Siphon, net, or hand, it gets nailed. And it will charge the front of the tank and get in front of the rays. But the fish that reside in the tank aren't bothered. It seemed fine in my big tank but the rays ended up roughing him up pretty good, which landed it back in QT with the golden retics and motoro viewed in black and white.

I had no trouble mixing bigger barbs and Brycon with him when he was small. Even tried bala sharks but he ate them... Go figure.

I did try it with my rays and it lasted about a whole 3 minutes, he was even stressed from pulling him out of his tank and putting him in the 450. He bite two rays in that 3 minutes. Another example of his aggression was when I first got him and just finished acclimatizing it and put him into the tank he immediately started attacking a 12" ID shark and the Aimara was only 6" at the time. So hence mine won't be able to go with anything but himself. I think he enjoys his own company anyway! LOL
