I'm getting a 125 AGA tank this weekend and dont know what to do for a filter. I plan to keep Malawi Peacocks. I have a 20 gallon long where I sectioned off a corner of the tank and made it and AIO. Like so http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1375191
If I did this with a freshwater tank what could I use as media, I was thinking pot scrubbers with a prefilter. I don't want a sump as I dont want the noise or risk of flooding. What would be better so I dont have to use the space from my display?

good choice, check out the DIY section here, lots of good help.
i just finished making my first sump, mind you its a wet sump not a wet/dry although i took most of the info i got on sumps from MFK and changed it to my liking, and now having it complete and set up on my tank i couldnt be more happy with how it turned out.
was alot easyer than i thought.
Good Luck.

I just dont want the noise, I had one on my reef tank, but I couldn't sleep with it.

You can make your wet/dry as quites as any other filter, just have to make sure you do the right things.
1. Make sure overflow has a noise reducer on it.
2. Make sure the drain had a lowfall height on it.
3. Put wet/dry in a covered stand to reduce noise.
4. Buy a good, quiet pump.
