get the copper band fish and some peperment shrimp and let them go to town on em they eat those things

What you need to do to kill it is drastically change the pH, then syphon them out. You don't need fancy chemicals or store bought 'products' to do that.
Injection with freshwater works (low pH), or Kalkwasser or calcium paste works as well (high pH).
