I recently purchased an All Glass brand 125. This tank is less than a year old. The guy I got it from purchased it in the spring of 2006.

While cleaning it up I notice some air bubles trapped in the silicone at three of the corner joints. These are in the joints, not the silicone bead inside the tank.

I've heard this may be an early sign of a leak. Just wanted to pick your brains to see what you think.

Thanks!

how big are the air bubbles? Are they exposed to the "outside" of the silicone or are the "trapped"

(sorry, cant think of a better way to word it lol)

Also :welcome:

They don't look like they are open to the inside or the outside. They seem to be trapped in the joint. I've had\have alot of All glass brand tanks and I don't recall seeing this on any others. Maybe their quality has gone down. I know their warranty at one time was 7 years and they dropped it to 2 years. I contacted them through email about this problem and have yet to hear back.

Here's food for thought. If you have a coffee cup that springs a leak, coffee will leak out, not air leak in. The same holds for your tank. If it is going to leak, air is not going to leak in and that goes for the silicone too. Air was trapped in the silicone during the sealing and has not posed a problem. Do not try to fix it. It will just cause bigger problems (new silicone does not bond well with cured silicone.)

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

i let a 400 for $750 brand new get away because of some air bubbles :(
i later talked to 2 different shops (Glasscages, Oceanview) both said if they dont
expand when the tank is filled dont worry
