Air pump compare

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dang my 20$ air pump is better than all of them lol I had it for over 6 years and supply 4 lines two in a 26" high tank. Pretty powerful.

Its rated for 20 gallons but I keep it on a 40 gallon a 10 gallon and 2 in my 200 gallon tank and runs very nice and powerful. Actually I had to dial it down with adjusters thats how good it is.

I think this is related to how the pumps function. I think you are creating a lot of back pressure on your bigger pumps.

My 1st airpump (smallest airpump) rate at 925 gph of air $50.
My 2nd airpump(bigest air pump) rate at 150lpm mean 2000gph of air $100
My 3rd airpump (WON 80) rate at 80lpm mean 1055 gph of air $175.

Sorry about your luck. I hope you get it figured out before you run out of money. Lol

In all seriousness though, have you thought about getting some sort of centrifugal air pump (similar to a car turbo) where a motor turns an impeller and then the centrifugal force pushes air out an outlet. This type of pump/fan can flow a ton more air than a piston pump, as you have pictured. The only thing you will have to check when looking for one is that it will be able to keep flow at the head pressure of the water you are pumping into.

How deep is the water you are trying to "boil"?

DB junkie DB junkie agian, thank you for your help. But can you please post a video about your airpump? Mine is even weaker than my old airpump.

What is your goal with the air pump? Are you trying to "boil" water for k1 or are you just trying to put a few air stones in a tank?

If your goal is to just have a few air stones in a tank then my Danner AP-8 works very well.

If you are trying to move some k1 around then you need to make sure you choose a pump that can handle the pressure at the depth of water you will be at and can keep a large flow. It's the same as with water pumps, some handle head height better than others.

My goal is boiling 2 cubic feet of k1 and few air stone for my 1000 gallons tank (4ft deep).

This is the pondmaster AP 20. It is rated for ponds up to about 2500 gallons, but, more importantly, it is rated for water up to 7' deep. It is priced at about $105. One thing to note about it is that it uses a 1/2" outlet as opposed to a regular aquarium airline tube connection. This is actually a good thing because it is much less restriction on the flow.

I recommend that if you want to try this pump you should run 1/2" tubing to the locations where you want to put the air stones/diffusers and then reduce it down to the airline size. This will cause the least restriction and provide the greatest flow.
