Air pump compare

Sorry, I DO NOT think the Danner will work well for you. I have the largest one they make and it works well for my 29 and 10 gallon tanks but the highest water level is only about 18-20". I think that your 27" would be too much.

However, the Pondmaster pump in the link I posted a few posts back is meant for a pond and "should" work very well for your application. It is meant to run in a max of 7' of water. You are at less that 2.5' so it should be no problem.

Typical aquarium air pumps do not work well when trying to fluidize k1 because you are looking for a lot more air than they are able to provide. This is because they design them just to run an air stone with some bubbles and not to push major flow to churn or "boil" the water for the flow of k1. I think for that you will need a larger pond type pump, such as the Pondmaster I posted a link to. Also, like I said before, the link will show you their smallest pump at $105. If you want, you can check out their larger sizes and get one if them if the prices are not too high.

Good luck!

I have a 110 gal stock tank for a K1 sump. I have a Pondmaster AP100 air pump with about a dozen 12 inch long rubber air diffusers that are sold in pond supplies. If they start to clog all you need to do is flex them a little and brush the gunk off. I have been running it for about 3 years now and it works great.

That sound great. Do you mean 12 ft of air diffusers? And running for 3 years without issue? Pondmaster have a good price on air pump too.

Yes, that is what I am running. These rubber diffusers use 1/4" inlets and are pretty pricy but do a great job. I have not needed to put a kit in the pump yet but I keep one on hand. The piston pumps are great, but to rebuild one costs what the AP100 costs for a whole new pump. A kit for the AP100 cost about $15. I figured I would need to put a kit in every year but I opened it up a couple months ago and the diaphragms still aren't even cracked.

I love the Jehmco central pumps. They blow huge air and are almost completely silent. The people who own the company are some of the most helpful people in the business and a joy to work with.

Before my tank ruptured ... I was using a Swiss Tropicals tower sponge filter that pushed over 300 gph - all powered on a Jehmco pump.

Don't get one unless you have huge air needs though.
