Air pump for fishroom - Big Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think i have made my choise and il go with HiBlow HP 120. The brand is very good, they are very low noise, energy efficient and have great durability. And 120LPM is enough for my 80 outlets, even if i ad some more tanks il have about 100 outlets and 120LPM is enough.

From your expirience, when setting up a new fishroom, should i buy 2 pumps and allways have a backup pump if 1 goes down, or buy replacemente kits?

Cause i live in an Island i cant buy quickly another pump to replace it.

Thanks

I understand your concern about parts availability. I checked the mfg.'s website and here is the following quote from the FAQ,
"How often should I replace the filter?
If you remove the top cover of the pump you will find the inlet filter. This small rectangular filter should be washed out every 6 months and replaced every year. Failing to do so can reduce the pumps flow by up to 30% and cause possible overheating.

What is the life expectancy of a Hiblow HP pump?
As Hiblow is the leading manufacturer of linear technology, it has exceptional build quality along with extremely robust parts. Typically our customers are seeing in excess of 8-10 years of life, if all necessary precautions are taken and the service instructions are followed."

It is very important to keep the intake/inlet filter clean. If the pump is located in a dusty environment, more frequent cleaning is needed.

I happen to have a used spare air pump for just in case failures but it is smaller than the one I currently use in my fish room.

I always have spares around. Kits and pumps. I'm not familiar with that brand, but most linear pumps have a rubber flapper that gets hard. I also found that disassembling the pump and lubing the piston once a year makes a big difference. I used food grade silicone grease, that I also use on filter o rings.
