Airation question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In my 75 I don't have any aeration other than the filters, but the return from the sump is pointed slightly towards the surface, creating lots of agitation, and there is lots of current from the canister as well. I'm very understocked right now though.

I do not use air stones for circulation at all. I cannot stand the sound of air pumps and do not care for the look of bubbles either. All of my tanks are filtered by both a canister filter and a HOB. I keep the water level high as well, never below the trim, so I do not have a cascading waterfall going into the tank either.
I have one 90gal and a 75gal that are fairly heavily stocked (other tanks are lighter) and have never had any problems that could be attributed to low O2 levels.

You guys that report problems with fish gasping or dying from low O2 levels, how high is your stocking density? Are you running very high temperatures?

Burt:)
