what do they do for the water? I just got about $1000 worth of aquarium supplies for $40 on craigslist and got 3 airators . I was wondering how they will benifit my fish or plants. i have a pike cichlid and a green terror. The bubbles dont do anything bad if i have too many active will they?

The airators put a ton of bubbles in the water which difuse O2 into the water itself, it also casuse water movement and surface agitation which also helps get rid of CO2. It could help your fish by having more O2 in the water, it probaboy wont do anything for your plants, if anything it wont be good for them b/c the surface agitation will get rid of Co2 which plants need. I personnaly dont use them b/c I dont like the look, but I do keep them around just in case. Personal pref. imo.
