I'm still toying with setting up a rack with tubs.
Assuming I use the lids with the tubs, how do you vent?
Are you tub users punching holes in the top for better air flow?

Sides personally. At the top on the sides, a load at each end. Be careful if your drilling the holes to make sure there is enough pressure on the otherside to counteract you pushing through... there is a strong chance they will crack the plastic.

^^ I agree, I drilled the sides on my rack.

Just don't make the same mistake I did at first and try to keep some tubs more humid by drilling less holes. Makes things too stagnant.

I always just drilled holes.........on the sides and ends and i never had heat or humidity problems.......

soldering iron :)
It won't crack the plastic.

I second using a soldering iron.....cracked LOTS of tubs using a drill, plus it gets plastic shavings everywhere and the holes aren't very clean. You can get them for less than 10 bucks.....very worth it.

As far as the amount of holes, I'd start with 3 on each side as a baseline for ventilation. Remember, the more holes you poke the more heat and humidity you are going to lose so the # of holes should be relative to the room that the tubs are placed in, if its a cold, dry room, then you only have a few holes, if its a warm, humid room, use more. Might take some tweaking to get it just right. And remember, you can always putty the holes back up in case that you accidently go overboard with them.

I agree on the holes not being clean with a drill.. It's a PITA to go back and try to clean them up. As far as cracking some crack with a drill and some don't. I think it might have to do with thickness of the tub. I had one that cracked from drilling but I think it was a thinner plastic.
