Just depends on the pressure you apply to whether they'll crack. Only reason Never used the iron is don't have one, but I'm sure it would be less hassle. Never had a problem having the holes clean, just drilled from both sides... is time consuming though.

I always used a file to try and clean them and it didn't work to well. My problem was opposite side drilling from would have sharp edges/excess plastic. And you're right pressure might be the difference.
