but he wont take dead foods.

My nandus ate dead food. I "trained" him to.
Put a small piece of shrimp on a fishingline Move it around the tank, and he might be intressted. (It will look like a feeder in his eyes) lol.
But make sure the shrimp come loose easy so you dont hurt the fish =(.

ive always thought of trying that for my nandus and my tat.
but my other fish would eat it before they could.

i had a nandus nandus, couldn't get him to take anything besides earthworms and feeders. I starved him for a week trying once again to get him to take dead foods, but then my salvini didn't like him and beat him up, and he was week from not eating so he passed away before i could get some gutloaded feeders pumped into him.

my nandus actually starved for like 2 mths.
so i gave up and gave him feeders.

My nandus was first on the food everytime (had him with crenicichla's and a channa).
