This is definitely an oddball specimen. While they have to be maintained in refrigerated tanks, they don't have the high DO requirements normally associated with coldwater species. This species has evolved an adaptation modification that gives it the ability of extracting oxygen from the air through it's esophagus.
To bad they're illegal to ship out of Alaska since it's illegal to posses live natives up there. We were just discussing this on a natives thread, the only way to obtain any would be to convince someone on Siberia, the only other place they reside other than Alaska, to ship some to you. As much as I'd love some they're so hard to get.

In all seriousness, while I do adore my cichlids and knives, cold water fish, whether fresh, salt, or brackish, grab my attention more than tropicals. We need more fish like this in the hobby.
