Hey guys this is my first time breeding any type of cichlid. I came home today and found my albino(male) peacock breeding with my pink(female) peacock. :headbang2 I want to make sure I can keep the babies safe after they hatch. I have a 20 gallon tank set up for babies. Any tips on how I can keep the babies? Thanks!

imo..leave them in for a few weeks since they will brood in the males mouth then remove them (sounds mean) but net him out and open his mouth gently with a tooth pick and extract them into another tank...ive seen this done on a few ocassions

Here's a few pics of the 20 gallon tank for the babies (tell me if I need anything else) and the pair that bred.

Nice male. If you don't want to strip the female, just put ther into the 20. When she's ready, she'll spit the fry. Then you can remove her a put her back in the other tank.

I have heard that if it's the females first time breeding, she may eat the eggs before they turn into fry, I can get a tumbler if neccessary.

I guess you could. I never used one. I always stripped my females. I use a straightened out paper clip to pull the bottom jaw down and gently "coax" the fry out with a little bit of shaking. Worked for me every time.

If you want to see how to do it, there are a few video's on youtube that show you how. It's actually pretty easy. The hardest part is catching the female.

If your worried that she'll eat the eggs on her first try, don't worry, they'll breed again soon.

what are your plans for the fry. Since these are hybrids you will want to make sure you let people know this. We have a lot of hybrids being sold as the real deal in the hobby, so make sure to be responsible with them.

I would recommend getting males and females of the same type if you want to breed. GL
