Hi all! ^^

I was at a fish farm and saw these bichirs and fell in love with them. I bought 2 of them 2 inches long each.

I keep them in a 2 ft tank with filter. Some questions I will like to ask...

1) I hardly see my bichirs eating... Nocturnal so I prolly wont get to see them eat ever? T_T I read in forums about training them to eat in morning but I keep feeders.
2) Are bichirs more tuned to soft acidic or hard water? The soil I am using now keeps the water midly soft... Will they be alright in it?
3) I currently keep catfish and ghost shrimps in the tank as feeders. How many of them should I keep in a 2ft tank to prevent overcrowding?

I cant think of anymore questions now but any tips and advice for a new bichir owner?

Well, you can feed them sinking pellet... what I do is I kill or disable a silverside and put it in front of my bichir to watch him eat that...

I use a pair of tongs and target or hand feed all my bichirs. Maybe their spoiled. I use to feed my other bichir feeders but not my new ones in fear of disease etc.

Sometimes I used to hand feed them but now I'm scared of being bitten by them... lol :D

Be careful, these feeders are carriers of diseases. Best practice is to quarantine your feeders first.
Pellets is a good diet for your bichirs...especially small growing ones!

Thanks all for the replies =D

@crowxviii

This is interesting... Carriers of dieases, can you elaborate more on quarantine? I am new to this so please advise =)
How long should I quanrantine? What other preventive measures is needed in quarantine.
I am away from home 5 days a week so I need live feeders.

On a note, I am using pellet soil the makes the water soft acidic, will my albinos tolerate it? And how long can pellet soil last before I need to change again?

Every fish that you want to introduce to you tank should be Quarantined fro 1-2 weeks to make sure that it doesn't have any disease to contaminate your tank... Just for safety precautions...
