My Metriaclima Greshakei pair have mated and I now have 17 fry. The female is ordinary but the male is an albino complete with red eyes. I have been examining the fry (about a week old) and I do not see any with red eyes. If the albino trait carried down will the red eyes develope later or would it be noticeable from birth?

I have them in a little heated/filtered nursery tank for the moment.

Congrats on the fry! None will be albino unless the female was also heterozygous for albino...meaning she was also carrying albino genes. If not, all will look standard like the female.

However, the 17 fry you now have are heterozygous for albino so you will have to breed the female offspring from this batch back with the albino male to get some albinos.

Isn’t that illegal ? :eek3:

This nursery tank is only 2.5 gallons but I filled the tiny filter with ceramic from my big filter. I am doing 25 percent water changes daily.
They are growing noticeably so I dont think I will be able to keep them in there for more than another 2 or 3 weeks.
I need to figure out what I am going to do with them. It’s either set up a grow out tank, give them to a store, or drop them back into the main tank and hope 1 or 2 survive. I do not really have any room for another tank.

Just over a couple of weeks in and they are acting like cichlids. There have already been a few facing off. It’s hilarious :evil_lol:

They are growing fast and I'm sure they appreciate the rocks.

The link worked for me, darn feisty little guys!! You may want to consider stacking some more rocks or adding real/fake plants that give them a bit more cover to escape.

I had a few more of those river rocks and put them in during today’s water change. Probably need a few more.....I will pick up a few more over the weekend.
These little guys grow enough to notice a difference in just a day. I cant wait to see how they will color up.
