Ah, a sooty, of course. Is it a true 1 of a kind or have you seen more? I know they breed them for aquaculture but do you know of anyone breeding them in a tank/pond as a hobby?
I’ve been out of Australia for 13 years now. My visual ID of species is waning 😵‍💫

I've always wanted to breed the color morph/pied coloration of their smaller cousin the Khaki/Tully Grunter.
I think when this book was written they were all just called Sooties.

Super cool mate. I grew up in Brissy but have fished the NT & far Nth Qld as well. I did a couple contracts as a remote area RN at Bamaga Hospital on the Cape. Super amazing part of Australia. Excellent SW & FW fishing places!
Do you have a tank big enough & think you’ll bite the bullet and buy it?

I don't have a tank large enough unfortunately and my 5000L outdoor pond is just too cold (I'm in NSW now) and my Koi wouldn't like it☹️
$600 is decent considering the price of Barra color morphs.
A bit of a search and I came up with these too,

That bottom one is super cool 😎

We have friends w a sheep station outside Tamworth. Bloody cold June-Aug 🥶 Understandable it wouldn’t work in your outdoor pond 🤙🏼
