Albino question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it would usually be 25% albino and the rest hets

I think

No, the offspring from the intial pair would be 50 % het for albino. If two of those offspring were then bred to eachother, the chances for albinos would actually be less not greater. Their offspring would then be around 25 % het for example. Now if you took one of those 50% het offspring and mated it back to another albino, you would have a greater chance at producing albino offspring. And they would be around 75 % het.

This mind you is just a general example.

SO no chance of albino with the frist offspring.

And also no way to know who was het for albino in the off spring?

I think I was following what you were saying. I think.

So I will breed this frog and then raise up the offspring and breed them back to this frog I have a better chance? Sorry this is so confusing for me.

Now to throw a monkey in the works.. What about Luecistics> ( or how every you spell it) any clues as to what they pass on?

There is a chance that you will have albino offspring from the intial pair. The babies that would be born that are not albino would be considered het. And yes, you should have a better chance of producing albinos, by breeding the offspring from the intial pair, back to the intial albino. I don't remember much luecistics. I'll see what I can dig up for you though.

The terms Albino and Leucistic describe the result of a mutation, not the mutation itself… Therefore there are different genetic mutations that can result in Albinism or Leucism… often worded as types of Albinism or Leucism…

To my knowledge, all forms of both Albinism and Leucism follow Medelian Genetics…

Per Mendelian Genetics…
Albino x Albino = 100% Albino
Albino x Standard = 100% Het…
Albino x Het = 50% Albino / 50% Het…
Het x Het = 25% Albino / 50% Het / 25% Standard…
(Note: Replace Albino with Leucistic and the same holds true per Mendelian Genetics)…

Some species can be partially affected by some forms of Albinism and/or Leucism when they are Het… this is the exception far more than it is the rule…

Mendelian Genetics is a very common way for mutated genes to be passed and is very well documented. Feel free to google the term and learn more…

Thank you very much

Can albinoism just happen randomly? out of 500-600 tads this has been the only one.

Genetic mutations can and do "just happen"...

Although the vast majority of them will result in either no effect or a negative effect such as a compromise of health or the specimen not being able to survive...

But... yes it is possible for a color related genetic mutatin to "just happen" although it would be exceptionally rare...

What species/morph did you find an Albino/Leucistic of? I'm not extremely well read on Dart Frogs but Panamanian Auratus is the only morph I've heard of having an Albino strain...

Alanis and Inferlanis have had some albinos pops up. My male alanis is suppost to be het for albino.
The turq and bronze auratus have shown some albinos along with one of the pumilios/ thumbs ( i think one of the Lamasi but I could be wrong) Maybe a man creek.

Oh anyways these are just fire bellied toads. Nothing spectacular but still some thing I would like to work on.
