Albino question

Thanks for the info and congratts on the find...

I'm been a fan of odd but naturally occurring color mutation for years. I've bred several Leucistic fish and Blue Jack Dempseys. I plan on buying some of the Albino/Leucistic Auratus to (attempt to) breed in the next couple of months.

I'm also dating a genetic scientist (post grad student working in a Univ lab). I don't know if having access to her education is to my benefit or deficit... We commonly get into conversations that make my brain hurt…

The terms Albino and Leucistic describe the result of a mutation, not the mutation itself… Therefore there are different genetic mutations that can result in Albinism or Leucism… often worded as types of Albinism or Leucism…

To my knowledge, all forms of both Albinism and Leucism follow Medelian Genetics…

Per Mendelian Genetics…
Albino x Albino = 100% Albino
Albino x Standard = 100% Het…
Albino x Het = 50% Albino / 50% Het…
Het x Het = 25% Albino / 50% Het / 25% Standard…
(Note: Replace Albino with Leucistic and the same holds true per Mendelian Genetics)…

Some species can be partially affected by some forms of Albinism and/or Leucism when they are Het… this is the exception far more than it is the rule…

Mendelian Genetics is a very common way for mutated genes to be passed and is very well documented. Feel free to google the term and learn more…
Thats it you got it;)

Good way to lay out that info! Nice and simple, I'm pretty sure that should get stickied somewhere for beginners as a quick reference.
